Book Reading #1: Good Design #1

Good Design #1: Electric Toothbrush

This is a sonicare tooth brush. It makes brushing much easier than a manual tooth brush. Its completely water proof and simply sits into the charger. It uses magnetic inductance to charge so there is no plugging in which makes it very simple and clean looking. The interchangeable brush heads make replacing an old one easy to do though they are rather expensive. All that is needed to use it is to push the button and it will run for exactly 2 minutes which is the standard length of time to brush. Once 2 minutes is up it turns off. When it is sitting in the charger, the light in the button flashes when charging and is solid on when it is fully charged. I did not read any instructions when I bought it even though there was a small manual that came with it. The entire process is incredibly intuitive. There is only one button for turning it on and off. It turns itself off after 2 minutes so you rarely ever actually turn it off yourself. Only when you need to stop brushing before the 2 minutes are up.
I have only had one problem with it. If I feel as though I have finished brushing before the 2 minutes are up and take it out of my mouth while it is still vibrating, I get sprayed by the tooth paste. I will eventually learn not to do that anymore, but it goes against how I have always brushed my teeth before. All I have to do is push the button again to turn it off before taking it out of my mouth. Also notice how my roommates(the right one) looks different to mine(the left one).
